Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) Dentist in Calgary
Beacon Hill Dental welcomes patients using the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). If you have been approved for the plan and you are looking for a CDCP dentist in Calgary, our team in Beacon Hill (NW Calgary) can help you understand your coverage and put it to use.
This page explains what the CDCP is, who qualifies, what it covers, and how to use your benefits at our clinic.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal program that helps eligible residents pay for oral health care.
It is run by Health Canada, and claims are administered by Sun Life. The plan is designed for Canadians who do not have access to private dental insurance and whose adjusted family net income is under $90,000.
To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all four of these requirements:
You and your spouse or common-law partner (if you have one) filed your tax return for the previous year
As of 2025, applications are open to all eligible Canadians who meet these rules, no matter their age. Coverage is confirmed each year, so you need to renew your eligibility annually. Applications are open for the 2026 to 2027 benefit year.
You can apply online through your My Service Canada Account or by calling Service Canada at 1-833-537-4342. Once you are approved, Sun Life will mail you a welcome package with your coverage start date and member card.

Know your co-payment
The CDCP pays a set percentage of established fees based on your adjusted family net income. Sun Life confirms your share, and we review any costs with you before treatment.
The amount the CDCP pays depends on your income
- Adjusted family net income under $70,000: the plan pays 100% of the CDCP established fees.
- Adjusted family net income $70,000 to $79,999: the plan pays 60%, and you pay a 40% co-payment.
- Adjusted family net income $80,000 to $89,999: the plan pays 40%, and you pay a 60% co-payment.
One important point: the CDCP pays based on its own set fee guide, which can be lower than a clinic’s usual fee. If there is a gap between the CDCP fee and our fee, you may have an extra charge on top of any co-payment. We always explain these costs before we start, so there are no surprises.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Beacon Hill Dental accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
Yes. We welcome CDCP patients at our NW Calgary clinic. Let us know you are on the plan when you book so we can confirm your coverage before your visit.
Do I need to pay anything if I am on the CDCP?
It depends on your income and the treatment. If your adjusted family net income is under $70,000, the plan pays 100% of the established CDCP fees. Above that, you pay a co-payment of 40% or 60%. You may also have a small extra charge if our fee is higher than the CDCP fee guide. We review all costs with you first.
What does the CDCP cover?
It covers many common treatments, including exams, cleanings, x-rays, fillings, root canals, gum care, extractions, dentures, and crowns. Some major services need pre-approval. Cosmetic treatments like whitening and veneers are not covered.
Do crowns and dentures need pre-approval?
Yes. Crowns, dentures, and some sedation services need pre-authorization from Sun Life before treatment. Our team submits this for you and lets you know once it is approved.
Can my whole family use the CDCP?
Each family member applies and is approved on their own, but children and adults can all qualify if they meet the rules. We provide children’s dentistry for eligible kids.
When can I start using my benefits?
Only on or after the coverage start date in your Sun Life welcome package. Care done before that date is not covered.
How do I apply for the CDCP?
Apply online through your My Service Canada Account or call Service Canada at 1-833-537-4342. You will need your Social Insurance Number, date of birth, and address, and you must have filed your tax return for the previous year.
